One birthday present down.
It's probably been said a thousand times by sewing bloggers, but it is so true that I will join the chorus: it is only worth giving hand made presents, when you are making something that simply cannot be bought. My niece who is turning 4 wanted, "Princess Bean Bags." Well now, that is something that can only be made not bought. So, £10 in materials and 7 hours of work later, and we have bean bags! It was hectic, but worth it. If China had been knocking these out, it would not have been worth it.

It would have been a quicker job, if I was more knowledgeable about my computer and the embroidery module on my sewing machine, but hey ho, I am learning as I go. I bought the appliqué down loads from
PlanetApplique.
Now it is onto the handmade Christmas stocking for Grandma and Granddad.
Oh my, that is terribly cute! But just out of curiosity- what is she planning to do with her Princess bean bags?
ReplyDeleteThose are adorable! Love the coach side, and can imagine that was a bit tricky, but you nailed it! :-) I too am wondering what they are for? Is it one of those games where you toss the bags?
ReplyDeleteYes! You toss the bags, to a friend, into a box or bucket, etc.
DeleteThese were very on-trend when I was a little kid in the 1970s. There was an idea that tossing bean bags around, which are easier for a pre-schooler than a ball would help develop a child's coordination. My mom, and old teacher still swears that they help prepare children for reading! Who knows, but they are fun. Over the years, I've given sets of these to five different kids and all of them really play with them a lot!
I even considered setting up an Esty store for them, but changed my mind once I found out all the EU requirements for manufacturing and selling to children. I'm sure there are plenty of people selling handmade toys on etsy in Europe, but they are all technically breaking the law if they don't have an EU tag showing the toy has met safety regulations. I just didn't want to deal with it.
Absolutely adorable! And as I recall, these do a lot less damage than balls when being tossed inside the house.
ReplyDeleteThat is a terrific gift idea for littlies, and we still have our children's bean bags; somewhere in the house.... I can still remember the fabric on the one my Mum made for me too!
ReplyDeleteYour niece will treasure these!
It really is adorable! I love the applique. What a great idea, I'll have to add that to my arsenal for my boys. They'd LOVE throwing bean bags around!!
ReplyDeleteThose are so cute and certain to make you the favorite aunt!!
ReplyDeleteHow darn cute is that? I'm so glad that China never thought of this, because this was definitely worth the effort! *love*
ReplyDeleteSuper cute set!
