| Just in case you might want to make a bra! |
You see, I am a scant 34B, when I am svelte, and a 36B, when I am enjoying myself properly! I can happily pop into Marks and Spencers or John Lewis and buy a comfortable bra that does the job for about a tenner. This completely satisfies me. I am not really a frilly undies sort of gal. Poor, poor dear husband. So, not sharing in the all consuming quest for a bra that is comfortable, fits properly, gives adequate support, etc. I was going to give the whole thing a miss and deal with my issues. Trouser fitting anyone?
However, fate seems to have grabbed my by the scruff of the neck. You see, I signed up for a lingerie making course at Morley College. There was a specific bra making course, but I avoided that one. I was thinking some yummy feeling, truly luxurious silk camisoles for winter would be just the right thing for me. Ooops, we are spending the first 5 to 6 weeks making a bra!
In about a month, expect a post about something that looks suspiciously like a training bra. After measuring myself as per the textbook, it seems that I am actually an A. Well, an AA. Sigh.

I am also a standard size ,but love make lingerie in silk and lace which cost so much to buy it also lets you design just for you try it you can never have enough lingerie valerie
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you have a nearby college offering such interesting courses. I'm a bit jealous!! Hope it turns out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteIt's not so bad, you might find you enjoy it, and then you can make something pretty for your hubby! ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that you should write this blog post today. I have wanted to make bras for a long, long time. I think it's because I'm a control freak. I'm a 34C and can buy standard bras for a reasonable price, too. In fact, just yesterday I was looking in a store that had 2 bras for $30 (Australian) and 6 pairs of matching undies for $30. Two minutes in that store has me rethinking my desperation to make a bra. I look forward to seeing what you make after your course. Maybe I can enjoy lingerie making vicariously?
ReplyDeleteThe idea that guys appreciate pretty lingerie is a complete myth. But I really enjoy wearing it. And I can never find any in navy blue which would be ideal w/ my wardrobe. So I am working w/ Cloth Habit.
ReplyDeleteThat course sounds exciting, but I can't believe you're going to have to make bras when you were hoping to avoid it! I will look forward to hearing how it goes for you.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the club! I didn't think I would be up to it either, but it is actually a fun project!
ReplyDeleteGo you! I look forward to seeing what comes out of the course!
ReplyDeleteI'll admit, I'm one of those girls who just LOVES pretty underthings - not sure why but I've attributed this to having to wear fairly ugly clothing to work, as I work in construction. I've signed up to the sewalong, but already I'm behind! I'm curious to see how my efforts compare to something I can buy in the shops though. And the idea of making bras and knickers from the lace and silk scraps left over from other sewing projects does appeal. I'll look forward to hearing about what you make/learn on your course!
ReplyDeleteWell, me and my Double D's will be rooting you along from across the pond! I'm not sure they make the necessary construction grade materials to craft a bra for this mama.
ReplyDeleteIf I go by the measurement charts, I actually have a negative cup size. So don't feel bad.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great course! Can't wait to see what you come up with.
