Dear daughter 1, has noticed that cowl style scarves are popular. My first thought was, those are for urban hipsters, not kids. Then, on second thought, I realised they are
perfect for kids. Easy to put on; hard to lose, no tail that gets caught or stepped on like a scarf.

| For my eldest daughter. |
I found some
Debbie Bliss Paloma yarn on sale. For a little over £8, I was able to make her a baby alpaca and wool blend snood/cowl. Much nicer than the acrylic tat at the mall.
There is no pattern for this. I just cast on 53 stitches and did a
seed stitch with two balls of yarn on circular 8 mm needles until I ran out of yarn.
It took a couple of hours in front of the TV. For a grown up, I might cast on a few more stitches and use size 10 needles.
I now seriously think I need one of these.
As do I!!! It sounds so easy....J
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, I am sure your daughter is thrilled.
ReplyDeletePretty! This is basically the "Gaptastic Cowl" that has been so popular in the knitting blogosphere in the last year or two.
ReplyDeleteGreat heads-up! I am going to make one of those for ME!
DeleteSuper cute. Maybe this would be a good way to get back into knitting before the winter is over.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I have one for myself that I did in the Nouveau colourway in Lion Brand Yarn Homespun. So long as my neck & upper chest is warm, I stay that way:)
ReplyDeletePretty, I really like that shade of blue. :-) Yeah, I think you definitely need one too. And they do sound perfect for kids, I hadn't really thought of it that way before either. I'm just going to have to suck it up and learn to knit...at least the needles will keep me from making crooked edges like I get with crochet, right??
ReplyDeleteWhat a lucky girl! Seed stitch cowls are so cute. I love the color you used.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely lovely! Pretty colour, and the seed stitch is such a nice nubbly effect. I think you should definitely treat yourself with one too!
ReplyDeleteIsn't this also called an eternity scarf? A good friend of mine who knits beautifully made one up for me in a gorgeous purple silk/bamboo combination. It's one of my favourite scarves. And from what I've heard from her, Debbie Bliss yarns are heavenly - and in such a pretty colour blue! Your DD must be very pleased!
